Greetings!
This December, we are breaking good news!
This is installment #3 of our year-in-review, and here and its related blogpost. Catch up with #1 and #2 here and here that cover our creating a popup waterside park, virtual programs, community mutual aid work and more.
PortSide had major successes this year that further position our last-of-her-kind gem, our flagship MARY A. WHALEN, for a future-focused role:
- We acquired a mint-condition vintage engine that can restore the MARY's cannibalized one, bringing her back to life.
- We are partnering with a group launching a new maritime school in this harbor. That will make our MARY a training ship. There will be a for-profit program, and revenue from that will support our non-profit effort to train disadvantaged youth.
Pease support this momentum with a year-end donation, with whatever you can. How to do that here.

We really seek your support since the Department of Cultural Affairs was very late in notifying applicants this year. We learned on 12/11/20 that they will NOT be funding us this year. That’s a loss of $40,000 we expected (and have received before) for a total drop of $55,000 in anticipated City funding due to covid’s impact on the City budget.
Please help make up the shortfall and donate here.
Due to the CARES Act, you can take a charitable deduction of up to $300 for cash contributions made in 2020 even if you do not itemize your deductions. Plus, our advisory board member Jonathan Atkin will give you a signed photograph for every donation of $300. Photo details are on our webpage DONATE.

Stay strong! Brooklyn Strong. And have a safe and happy holidays!
Best,
